City fixes roads and stormwater infrastructure before winter

As the rainy season approaches, the City’s Urban Mobility Directorate is working diligently to prepare our roads and stormwater systems. As part of our Preparing for Winter initiative, the Mayoral Committee for Urban Mobility, Councillor Rob Quintas, together with depot staff and the local ward councillor, Ebrahim Sawant, visited the Wesbank area to review ongoing maintenance.
The teams were hard at work unblocking stormwater drains and unclogging significant blockages caused by illegal dumping in the area. The waste and dumping of sewage leads to blocked stormwater drains, resulting in overflows onto the streets and thus causing floods.
Additionally, the team also embarked on mending potholes at various locations in Wesbank. This is part of the initiative to prevent further damage to our roads and making our roads safer.
'Our teams are working tirelessly to remove blockages, and maintaining clean and functional stormwater systems. As we prepare for winter, it's crucial to address these issues proactively. Prevention is always better than repair. By ensuring our stormwater systems and roads are in good condition, we can mitigate the risks of floods and keep our communities safe. I urge community members to look after this infrastructure. In the long-run it comes back to affect the very same residents when the roads pond with water and potholes start forming. This is all preventable,' said the City's Mayoral Committee Member for Urban Mobility, Councillor Rob Quintas.
